VoIP vs. Digital
Thirty five years ago, the entire business and residential telecommunications industry was analog; Two wires – one red, one green, with barebones features. We called it ‘Tip & Ring’. Business owners and residential customers had no choice but to rent their equipment and phone service from one of the public telecommunications companies, whose industry dominance allowed them to dictate what their customers used and where they got it. It also gave these telephone companies no incentive to develop new technologies. That all changed in the 1970’s and 1980’s, when the CRTC allowed a host of new companies, including Sprint, AT&T, London Telecom and over 150 resellers to enter the market to compete with the old regional monopolies. The decision also opened the door to additional regulatory changes and mounting pressure for competition to be allowed in local telecommunications. Under this pressure, the former alliance of regional monopolies, Stentor (BELL CANADA, BCTel, Telus, SaskTel, MTS, NBTel, NfldTel, Island Tel and Telesat), has come under pressure and reduced its role in co-ordinating the national telecommunications system. In the years that followed, technology doubled each year as demand for better, faster, more feature-rich telephones grew. And everything went digital.
Digital technologies allowed for seemingly unlimited possibillities in telecommunications. One of the biggest developments has been the emergence of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Most of the advancements in the industry today are taking place in the VoIP environment, making this relatively new technology the best choice for most business applications.
As an exclusive Mitel partner, Canadian Telecom Solutions is at the forefront of the VoIP movement. CTS can provide other Mitel digital systems as well, with a solution for every telecommunication need. We even have solutions for pushing VoIP phones through the old ‘Tip & Ring’ wires if your current cabling is not data-ready.

Cloud-Based/Hosted Solutions
Beginning in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) began allowing more and more areas of telecommunications to escape the influence of regulation. Beginning in 1979, the CRTC allowed private lines to be interconnected with the public telecommunications network. Three years later, subscribers were allowed to purchase their own terminals from any supplier and plug them in like electrical appliances. Today, with the availability of Cloud-based systems, we have now, it seems, come full-circle. For some customers, Cloud-based (or ‘Hosted’) systems give them the best of both worlds; all the benefits and features of VoIP phones without having to purchase the equipment. The decision between premise-based (owned) and Cloud-based systems is based on several factors, including the size of your business, your budgetary strategies, and your building arrangements.
Canadian Telecom Solutions offers three different Cloud-based solutions, ensuring a solution to our clients’ individual needs. All of our Cloud-based solutions employ Mitel handsets and are robust enough to meet your needs both today and in the future. CTS takes a consultative approach in educating our customers on the merits of Cloud-based vs. Premise-based systems, giving you the tools and knowledge to make an educated decision. Call 1-888-778-3526 today to find out if a Cloud-based system is the right option for you.

We’re in it for the long haul…
Canadian Telecom Solutions does much more than distribute and install the best telecom systems in the business. Once you become an CTS client, you remain a client year after year. We offer Maintenance and Support programs that will ensure that your new system remains up-to-date and delivers top performance for years to come.
Our Software Assurance program provides you with continual updates to your system’s software. Keeping your software up-to-date not only allows you to take advantage of added and updated features, but is absolutely critical in keeping your system secure as hackers focus their attacks on outdated software. We offer long-term coverage options at discounted prices that are both worry-free and budget-friendly.
CTS services and maintains everything we install. Our Telecare Support packages offer emergency and non-emergency service with response times better than anyone in the industry. Our customers also receive free technical support and assistance for moves, adds and changes, and consultation for configuration and expansion planning. Our packages are flexible to fit your particular situation and budget.
Every one of Canadian Telecom Solutions’ technicians are manufacturer-certified and are CTS employees… we don’t use sub-contractors. And when you call our toll-free number, you get an actual person – who answers in no more than three rings – right here in the USA.
